LIFE IN THE CUT [Short Film] – 2026
“LIFE IN THE CUT” Is an 18 minute, animated, documentary short film I wrote, directed, and animated during my 2025-2026 artist residency in the north west tower of Seattle’s iconic Fremont Bridge.
Much of my workflow for this film revolved around digitally compositing and manipulating hand crafted Illustrations and prints. This mix of analog and digital methods allowed for flexibility in color and composition while maintaining the organic character and texture of analog processes.
Because animated typography plays a large part in both the narrative and visuals of the film, I opted to design and a font inspired by the aged industrial aesthetic of the Fremont Bridge, which I carved into linoleum blocks and printed with varying degrees of texture and opacity. This process elicited a weathered boil to match the centuries of chipped paint coating the bridge and the injected unique life and character into the simple moments of animated text.
